“In Jeffrey's completed artworks, he gives a new experience to an existing material. With the combination of color and perspective, his work is loved by a wide audience. Jeffrey is very involved in his assignments and, as a result, captures the essence of his artistic work well. ” - Hannah Groenwold, Vereniging van Waterbouwers
About the Rotterdam city sketcher
Rotterdam city sketcher
Jeffrey has been drawing almost all his life. He has studied graphic and multimedia design and worked as a game- and web designer. But his love and urge for drawing has always remained. This is why he went to the Art Academy in Antwerp and now works as an independent visual artist. You will not easily get tired of his cheerful, idiosyncratic and detailed drawings.
He’s also one of the organisers of the Urban Sketchers Rotterdam. Every month they organise sketch events at various locations in Rotterdam. To tell the stories of their city. He also hosts figure drawing sessions in his living room. He likes to connect people through creative events.
As a city guide he gives drawing tours in Rotterdam and Schiedam. His work is part of private and corporate collections at home and abroad. He has exhibited in the Stationshuiskamer, Markthal, Kunsthal and Tent Rotterdam. His cityscapes are for sale at the Stayokay, Artigrafie, Enfant Terrible and the Maritime Museum Rotterdam
Jeffrey de Bruin
“I’m a city sketcher. I portray cityscapes and city people. My work is organic and full of life, details, feeling and humour. I like to give buildings and machines animal-like or human characteristics. I love colour, contrast and a whimsical line. I usually work on location and using observation. Responding to my environment with watercolours, pencil and pen. Finally, my love for comics and urban sketching has also influenced my style.
I want people to be happy when they look at my work. I think there is enough negativity and fear in everyday life already... and I want people to be able to escape that (even if only for a short time). Or simply that it makes them happier in general. In the future I want to share more stories about my city, either big or small.“
